Accuracy depends on your GNSS receiver and correction source. With RTK/VRS corrections, PointMan supports sub-centimeter horizontal and vertical accuracy. The app displays live accuracy readouts and allows you to set tolerance thresholds (e.g., ±0.1 ft) with visual/audio alerts when you're within spec. Built-in QA workflows help ensure every stake meets your project requirements.
PointMan supports import and export of SHP (Shapefile), KMZ (Google Earth), DXF, DWG (AutoCAD), and CSV formats. All custom attributes, symbology, and coordinate reference systems are preserved during import/export. You can selectively export specific layers, apply filters, and maintain your existing CAD/GIS workflows without manual transcription.
Yes. PointMan works fully offline. Download your project data (base maps, stake lists, data dictionaries) before heading to the field. Collect points, photos, and attributes without any cell or Wi-Fi connection. All data is queued locally and automatically syncs to the cloud when you regain connectivity. Perfect for remote job sites.
PointMan includes built-in QC features: required attribute fields prevent incomplete data entry, tolerance checks validate stake accuracy before marking complete, photo documentation provides visual proof, and web-based review tools let office staff validate field data before export. You can also set up approval workflows where senior staff review and approve data before it's sent to clients or integrated into CAD/GIS systems.
PointMan pairs via Bluetooth with most NMEA-compatible GNSS receivers including Bad Elf, Trimble, Emlid Reach, and Leica. It supports internal GPS (for lower-accuracy work), external Bluetooth receivers (sub-meter), and RTK/VRS-corrected receivers (sub-centimeter). The app auto-detects connected receivers, displays live accuracy, and lets you save pairing profiles for quick reconnection. Contact us if you need to confirm compatibility with your specific hardware.
Photos captured in PointMan are automatically tagged with GPS coordinates, timestamp, user ID, and linked to the specific point feature. They're stored in the cloud with the rest of your project data, accessible via the web interface for review and QA. Photos are included in exports (embedded in KMZ files or linked in SHP/CSV) and can be downloaded separately for reports or client deliverables. All photos are compressed for efficient storage and bandwidth, but originals are retained.
You own 100% of your data. SiteTwin and ProStar (maker of PointMan) do not claim ownership or rights to any field data, photos, or project information you collect. You can export, delete, or transfer your data at any time. All data is stored securely on AWS servers with encryption at rest and in transit. We never share, sell, or use your project data for any purpose other than providing the service.
Most crews are productive within 1-2 days. SiteTwin provides: initial setup and data dictionary configuration (1-2 hours), live training session for admins and field leads (1-2 hours), field crew training and practice (2-4 hours), and ongoing support during your first few projects. We also provide video tutorials, quick-reference guides, and in-app help. For full-service engagements, SiteTwin can handle field collection while training your team in parallel.
Yes. PointMan uses industry-standard security: AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS 1.3 encryption in transit, role-based access controls, SOC 2 compliant infrastructure (AWS), regular security audits and penetration testing, and automatic backups with point-in-time recovery. User access is controlled by project administrators, and audit logs track all data access and changes.
PointMan handles projects of any size. We've seen projects with 50,000+ points and thousands of photos. The export system uses selective layer filtering so you can export subsets of data (e.g., by date range, crew, or feature type) to keep file sizes manageable. Large exports are processed in the background and delivered as download links. There are no hard limits on project size, points, or photos.
